The 2025 ‘It’s Always Debatable’ Tournament in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The 2025 ‘It’s Always Debatable’ Tournament in Bosnia”

In 2024, we piloted an International IAD Tournament to take these skills global. It wasn’t just a showcase of language ability, but a proving ground for real-world competencies: quick decision-making, persuasive reasoning and cross-cultural communication.

This year, instead of a single international showdown, each country hosts its own National Round. After ten Helen Doron centres in Hungary came together in April, Bosnia and Herzegovina took the stage in May.

From 10–11 May 2025, 35 enthusiastic students gathered at the elegant Bank Hotel in Kiseljak. Over two days of workshops and team debates, they tackled topics from sustainable cities to digital citizenship, pairing up with peers from different towns and challenging each other to think and argue entirely in English. The atmosphere was electric: energy, curiosity and the joy of discovery filled every corner of the room.

When the judges, led by returning mentor and Teacher Trainer Pamela Athwani, announced Bakir Kajanija (Helen Doron Stari Grad) as champion, his mastery of clear, logical thinking in English set him apart.

Education You Can’t Argue With

At Helen Doron English, we believe debate is the ultimate language lesson that equips students with skills they cannot argue with. Our “It’s Always Debateable” (IAD) course goes far beyond vocabulary drills. It trains students to:

  • Structure their ideas logically, even under time pressure
  • Weigh evidence on the fly and respond with clarity
  • Listen actively, craft respectful rebuttals and show empathy
